California Democrat Rep. Gil Cisneros has backed legislation that aims to increase the support military members get when they return back home.
More than 45,000 veterans and active duty service members have died by suicide in the past six years. And service members reintegrating into civilian life are at a particularly high risk of suicide.
The legislation would expand the support network offered by the Veterans Affairs department, in part by directly engaging with service members’ families and providing critical information on veteran benefits and services.
