Astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken blasted off at 4:33 pm ET today.

The SpaceX Crew Dragon blasted off today en route to the International Space Station and it was out of this world.

This is SpaceX’s first-ever crewed mission in the company’s 18-year history and the first launch from U.S. soil since 2011. The first launch attempt on May 27 was scrubbed due to weather.

Astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken blasted off at 4:33 pm ET today.

According to CBS News, the mission, known as Demo 2, is the culmination of a six-year, multibillion-dollar NASA effort to end its reliance on Russia’s Soyuz spacecraft to transport astronauts to and from the space station. The Commercial Crew Program will eventually include launches by Boeing as well as SpaceX.

Their exact return date will be determined later, with weather conditions being a factor.
