The Republican National convention was this week and featured an array of speeches from Trump’s family and associates.
While many of the speeches were loud, perhaps none made more of an impression than that of Kimberly Guilfoyle, former Fox News host and Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend. She used her speech to attack Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and praise President Trump’s tenure in office. The content was perhaps not surprising, but the delivery set social media ablaze, as Guilfoyle adopted a style more befitting a packed convention hall than an empty room.
Like many other RNC speakers, Guilfoyle used her time to praise President Trump’s handling of the economy. That assertion, of course, was in question by many working-class Americans even before the pandemic. Since then, things have only gotten worse. Guilfoyle, notably, was silent about that.
While the convention continued throughout the week, a group of anti-Trump Republicans and independents held the Convention on Founding Principles in Washington, D.C. There, speakers called for “a return to moderate values, respect for justice and science, and civility in politics.”
