Fifty-two of the 53 Republican Senators voted to acquit Trump on the first charge, abuse of power, with Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) delivering the lone, dissenting vote. All 53 Republicans acquitted Trump on the obstruction of power charge.
"Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine," the Utah Republican said Wednesday.
Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander announced Thursday he would not vote in favor of bringing forth witnesses to testify in the Senate Trump’s impeachment trial, effectively sealing an acquittal.
