President Donald Trump’s repeated denials of the seriousness of COVID-19 is nothing if not consistent. Since the start of the pandemic, he has repeatedly claimed the virus would “disappear”, and despite increasing cases in the United States, this month has been no exception.

There was hope the president’s cavalier attitude toward the virus would change, after more than two dozen members of the Trump team, including the president himself, contracted COVID-19. Instead, the president has doubled down on his approach. His campaign continues to throw massive, largely mask-free rallies, and he recently insulted Dr. Anthony Fauci by calling him an “idiot.”

As the COVID-19 death toll in the United States passes 223,000, it’s clear that Trump still refuses to acknowledge the severity of the outbreak in the United States.
